Book Review – Crown of Midnight by Sarah J. Maas

My Instagram Post from a while back 🙂

Title: Crown of Midnight (Throne of Glass #2)

Author: Sarah J. Maas

Genre: YA Fantasy

Reading timeline: 27 Dec 2015- 11 Jan 2016

Synopsis: Celaena Sardothien has won the king’s contest to become the new royal assassin. Yet Celaena is far from loyal to the crown – a secret she hides from even her most intimate confidantes.
Keeping up the deadly charade—while pretending to do the king’s bidding—will test her in frightening new ways, especially when she’s given a task that could jeopardize everything she’s come to care for. And there are far more dangerous forces gathering on the horizon — forces that threaten to destroy her entire world, and will surely force Celaena to make a choice.

Where do the assassin’s loyalties lie, and who is she most willing to fight for?

Review:

(Review overview: Part I might be very dry, but the juicy part is at Part II of the book. )

I am super tempted to reveal the huge spoiler that’ll change everything from now on, but I promised a non-spoiler review so let’s HIT IT!

I think the first part of CoM could be better. I wasn’t really drawn to it and made me read it for a little less than a month-which is super slow for me!

I was only compelled to push through since I bought the 2nd, 3rd and the 4th book all together. I have to say, ToG series endings never disappoint 👍🏼

It would be difficult for readers to actually get through this book if they’re not a huge fan which may be a downfall. I personally love it, since its showed a lot of the character’s huaminty. Which reminds you that they are still human, not just book characters without feelings.

My thoughts on individual parts

When I think deep about it, Fleetfoot is there to anchor Celaena back to reality and allows her to grab hold onto her humanity. Like it is representing a soul that Celaena has but can’t show in the kingdom. Don’t you think? (12/18)

(Wow. This last line of review has such a foreshadow! I haven’t even finished this book at that time. ⤴️)

-In chapters 17 and 18, you can clearly tell how much Celaena wants a normal life – with someone, that if you want to know, read the book 😉 I already promised no spoilers! Anyway, I felt for her, that she actually wants a normal life without the other burdens. (12/26)

– What made me stayed was the fact that I want to know how the king gathered so much power and if Celaena will be able to be a normal girl. (12/29)

Awesome or nah:
