Yay! Finally stating on this crazy series that everyone seem to love after a year of hesitation 🙂
If you haven’t know already from my Instagram, I’m buddy-reading this with @beyondtheblurb
We’re both starting on this series fresh and I hope it’ll be awesome, since this is my first time buddy-reading 😀
Title: Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (HP #1)
Author: J. K. Rowling
Genre: Adventure, Children’s Literature, Fantasy, Quest. Harry Potter is hard to classify as a single genre – it’s more like a recipe. For excitement. The primary ingredient is probably Children’s Literature.
Reading timeline: 12 Jan 2016 – 24 Jan 2016
(Taken directly from Google) Harry Potter, a boy who learns on his eleventh birthday that he is the orphaned son of two powerful wizards and possesses unique magical powers of his own.
He is summoned from his life as an unwanted child to become a student at Hogwarts, an English boarding school for wizards. There, he meets several friends who become his closest allies and help him discover the truth about his parents’ mysterious deaths.
(I always try my best to give a spoiler-free review! So you can enjoy reading the book and my review with ease 🙂
(Review overview: I’ll start of by saying that I now understand the hype and fandom! I fell in love with the book at the chapters in the middle. Especially ‘Quidditch’:) )
Hogwarts Houses: It’s not that I don’t know which houses I want, per say. But I don’t know which to choose between Gryffindor or Ravenclaw. Hmm.. Maybe I should Google up a ‘Which House in Hogwarts would you be in Quiz’ or something XD
HP and PJO fandom war: I feel like this book is similar to Percy Jackson, not in the plot – cos its wayyyy different, but in the style/genre. Which was meant to be a children’s literature book.
I would have to say that I love the Harry Potter series much more than the Percy Jackson and the Olympians! The plot in H.P is way more interesting and capturing!
I’ve always loved magic after I watched Bonnie (in The Vampire Diaries TV series) do her thing.
Yes PJO has the ‘magic’ element as well, but not with the classic wands and wizard hats magic. ❤
Characters: Dumbledore is a very wise man indeed. Well, not in choosing Bertie Bott’s Every-Flavour-Beans tho!
We have to thank him for his words of wisdoms and advices 😉 I think this while Harry Potter world is not only based on Magic but on love. Don’t you think? Well, in my opinion it is 😛
Harry is, as the Sorting Hat said, a true Gryffindor! So is Hermione and Ron of course. Facing the Trapdoor like that!
YAY or NAY?: After reading this first book in the Harry Potter series, I can proudly say that 1) I’m in love with it and 2) It’s wayyyy better than PJO.
I just fell in love with J.K. Rowling’s writing style. It holds humour, solemnness and danger together. Some parts got to me and others made me smile.
Definitely enjoyed it immensely.
Awesome or nah:
( 5 lightning bolts out of 5)
Have a wonderful day!
